On 14 October 2026, former ECIIA Presidents and current leaders gathered in Brussels for a special anniversary dinner, celebrating 25 years of commitment, collaboration and leadership in European internal audit.
Ahead of the ECIIA Conference 2026, the European Confederation of Institutes of Internal Auditing (ECIIA) brought together former Presidents and members of its current leadership for an evening dedicated to the people who have helped shape the organisation over the past 25 years.
More than an anniversary celebration, the gathering offered an opportunity to reconnect, share memories and recognise the dedication of those who have contributed to building a stronger, more connected internal audit profession across Europe.
Celebrating the people behind the journey
Throughout its history, ECIIA has been shaped by successive generations of leaders united by a common ambition: strengthening cooperation between National Institutes and ensuring that the internal audit profession has a collective voice at European level.
The anniversary evening paid tribute to this shared journey, recognising the leadership, commitment and contributions of former Presidents who helped guide ECIIA through different stages of its development.
A special anniversary film brought together reflections from former ECIIA Presidents, highlighting the achievements, experiences and aspirations that have shaped the Confederation. Their perspectives offered a valuable reminder that ECIIA’s history is not only about institutional progress, but also about the people, relationships and shared convictions behind it.
The film also formed part of the anniversary celebrations during the ECIIA Conference 2026, held in Brussels on 15–16 October.
One European community, one collective voice
Today, ECIIA brings together 36 National Institutes representing more than 58,000 internal auditors across Europe.
This collective strength reflects the importance of cooperation across countries, professional communities and sectors. By connecting National Institutes and engaging with European institutions, regulators and other stakeholders, ECIIA works to promote the value of internal audit and its contribution to sound governance.
As Europe navigates technological transformation, evolving regulation and increasingly complex risks, the importance of a strong, coordinated European voice for the profession remains clear.
The dedication of ECIIA’s former Presidents has helped lay the foundations for this continued collaboration and for the work that lies ahead.
