The European Banking Authority (EBA) has opened a public consultation on its draft Guidelines for Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) scenario analysis.

This consultation focuses on helping financial institutions improve their resilience against ESG-related risks by adopting forward-looking scenario analysis in their management frameworks.

These Guidelines build on the existing EBA Guidelines for ESG risk management, released in January 2024. They emphasise the importance of testing institutions’ financial and business model resilience under various ESG scenarios, particularly those tied to climate neutrality goals.

They also briefly outline the role of the 3rd line (internal audit) in assessing and supporting the implementation of these frameworks.

Key details:

  • Consultation deadline: 16 April 2025

Institutions and stakeholders are encouraged to provide feedback on the draft Guidelines via the EBA’s consultation page.
