Despite the current difficult circumstances, the European Commission has published the stakeholder consultation on the Renewed Sustainable Finance Strategy, which will be open until the 15th July 2020.

The European Commission has welcomed all citizens, public authorities, including the Member States and private organisations to give their views and opinions to inform the development of the renewed strategy that will be adopted at the end of the year.

The consultation includes questions about corporate governance, long-term and investor engagement. It involves more general questions as well as a section with questions primarily targeted at experts with financial and sustainability-related knowledge.

The renewed strategy aims to provide the policy tools to ensure that the financial systems genuinely support the transition of businesses towards sustainability in the context of recovery. The strategy is an integral part of the European Green Deal and will contribute to the European Green Deal Investment Plan to enable a framework for private investors and the public sector to facilitate sustainable investments.

The importance of the Renewed Sustainable Finance Strategy is particularly highlighted by the ongoing COVID-19 crisis which underscores some of the subtle links and risks associated with human activity, climate change, biodiversity loss and the need to strengthen the sustainability and resilience of our societies and economies.

The European Commission looks forward to engaging with reading the feedback.
