Internal Auditing is well on its way to become one of the pillars in the corporate governance structure. Our interface with other professionals in this environment demands excellent skills in various fields. Board members and executive management expect that Internal Auditors are well educated. The Internal Audit community must therefore ensure that students are given the opportunity to specialise in Internal Auditing at an academic level, and that present Internal Audit professionals can add additional academic competence to their present degrees.

A number of European universities have Internal Audit programs available for their students and some universities are also giving PhD courses and/or are engaged in research within Internal Auditing or Governance.

ECIIA and the Academic Network are therefore building a database of European academic endeavours in Internal Auditing and Governance. This database will give an opportunity for members to find academic programs, courses, conferences or other interesting information for research exchange. It could as well give researchers the opportunity to discuss areas of interest within internal audit and corporate governance.

We recommend, for those who are interested, to contact your local IIA institutes to receive more information, or to contact any of these universities directly.
