Phil Tarling, IIA UK & Ireland (President)

At the last General Assembly, Phil Tarling was elected new President of the ECIIA.
Phil is an MIIA (the UK & Ireland equivalent of CIA, the Global qualification). He obtained a Masters degree in Internal Audit and Management from City University Business School, London in 1989 and qualified as a Certified Fraud Examiner in 1996.
Phil is a Partner in RSM Tenon, in charge of the firm’s international risk management-, fraud investigation- and internal audit services. In addition to helping the former Soviet Union, Poland and Turkey to establish effective internal audit units within the public sector, Phil has worked in many (then) EU- accession countries (Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Czech Republic, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary) as well as current EU- candidate countries (Croatia, Turkey, FYR of Macedonia), and potential EU- candidate countries (Serbia, Kosovo). These projects have all been aimed at building internal audit and risk management capacity in these countries in order to meet EC standards. More recently, Phil also started developing risk management-, fraud investigation- and internal audit services in Africa.
In addition to his busy and successful professional career, Phil has a longstanding volunteer curriculum promoting the value of high quality internal audit services at the national, regional and global level; a.o. Phil
- Has been on the Board of the IIA UK & Ireland from 1997-2008 where he was President in 2005-2006.
- Was elected to the ECIIA Management Board in 2007 and became Vice President in 2009.
- Has been on the (global) IIA’s Board of Directors from June 1999 to July 2008 when he was appointed to IIA Executive Committee, where he currently serves as Vice President Professional Practices.
Needless to say that Phil has the right profile and background to guide the ECIIA in the achievement of its overarching goal: that internal audit is being recognized as a major source for objective governance-, risk- and control assurance in relevant pan-European legislation/regulation and guidance.
We are sure that all ECIIA member institutes will fully support our new President, and its Management team, in this challenging task.
