Profile

The European Confederation of Institutes of Internal Auditing (ECIIA) is the professional representation of 33 national Institutes of Internal Audit in the wider European region. ECIIA's objective is to support the position of internal control professionals in the EU and ECIIA's member countries and to promote the application of the global Institute of Internal Auditing (IIA) Standards and Code of Ethics to all Internal Audit activity in the public and the private sector.

Who are we?

ECIIA is a confederation of national associations of internal auditing which are located in countries within the wider European economic area. This includes all of the EU, Eastern Europe, Scandinavia and the Mediterranean Basin. It has 33 member countries and more may join in the future. There are no individual memberships, only IIA institutes or chapters.

What do we do?

ECIIA exists to promote professional internal auditing - its benefits, competencies, standards and qualifications - to all European institutions, bodies, committees and people of influence.

How Do We Do It?

ECIIA undertakes research on topics relating to internal audit, business control, risk management and corporate governance. Two research projects are currently underway: Co-operation and Co-ordination between Internal and External Audit; Internal Audit and Corporate Governance in the Top 100 Companies in the Major European Countries. We publish Position Papers, reports and give advice. We are a permanent advisor to the EC Committee on Auditing and support the work of developing a professional approach to internal auditing in various EC Directorates General. ECIIA's President, Vice President, Management Board and Director General make presentations and lecture anywhere on request and on any subject which could have an impact on driving the profession forward.

What Else Do We Do?

ECIIA promotes the application of the IIA Standards to all internal auditing work, advises adherence to the IIA Code of Ethics for all internal auditors and supports professional competency - in working practices and by the acceptance of the Certified Internal Auditor qualification and its equivalent - as a necessity in measuring internal audit performance.

Where Are We?

ECIIA is based in 1000 Brussels (Belgium), Koningsstraat 109-111 bus 5. Our office can be contaced by phone +32 2 217 33 20 or by using the contact form in the header.

What Is ECIIA's Structure?

ECIIA is run by its members for its members. The General Assembly is made up of a delegate from each member country, meets annually, approves the programme of work and its funding and sets the strategic direction of the Confederation. The Management Board has charge of the day to day running of the Confederation, implements strategy and develops policies and programmes which implement the Confederation's goals and objectives. The Management Board meets at least four times annually.
